There are many beautiful and unique holiday makeup collections from luxury brands this year, but if I have to choose just one collection, "The Dior Ball of Dreams" collection probably takes the cake. This is a hard pick because I think Chanel also did an amazing job and I personally have reached for the Chanel collection more often. However, Dior has collaborated with an artist and done special packaging and this collection ticks more boxes in terms of pleasing a wider range of people.
Diorshow 5 Couleurs 863 Soir de Bal ($72, Dior)
The eye quint of my choice, Soir de Bal has a cooler color story and is more versatile than the other quint offered. The idea of a quint eyeshadow is like having 2 trios, and I do enjoy incorporating all 5 shades in one eye look, but I can create at least 3 distinctly different eye looks using this one palette. Such a beautiful and useful color story!
The most interesting and unexpected shade is the rosy pink on the top left. From the pan, it looks a bright cool pink but when swatched, it is much warmer. This one has bigger shimmers and these pink shimmers make the pan shade appear cooler.
Dior Forever Couture Luminizer 002 Corail Lumière ($55, Nordstrom)
Dior has collaborated with the Italian artist Pietro Ruffo on this collection and this exquisite and regal design pattern shines in this highlighter.
Corail Lumière is a golden coral beige and this color makes yet another beautifully luminous blush shade for me. The truth is I am pretty fair and many highlighters are deeper than my complexion. I personally enjoy wearing such shades in place of blushes rather than thinking they leave a cast on my complexion. I do not mind some glitters in holiday highlighters but this one in particular has a smoother finish.
Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Sequin ($49, Dior)
This formula was introduced last year and went viral. I think the gimmicky "apply the color, wait for 5 minutes, and pucker your lips to reveal the glitters" marketing was very effective, especially on a platform like TikTok.
It's actually not necessary to wait for that long and this is indeed such a pretty and practical lip formula, so I ended up with 4 new shades. (The one on the far right with the black cap is from last year's collection.)
They all have glitters but some have bigger-sized ones than others (393 Liaison is one of them). These lip colors are highly pigmented and dry fast for a long-lasting effect, so I do not recommend piling on them. A thin even coat is best to reveal the true beauty of these colors!
Dior Vernis 641 Soir de Bal ($34, Macy's)
This is another example of why Dior needs to put out better stock photos on their website. The actual nail color is quite different from the photo although it is still a gorgeous shade.
The recently reformulated Dior Vernis offers a better and easier application but it is not the longest-lasting formula out there. Wear time for me is about 5-6 days.
I think Dior hit it out of the park with this year's holiday makeup collection. This collection has it all: quite an opulent and festive presentation, and beautiful versatile colors that suit many different skin tones.
