Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palettes | Over Noir & Over Brun

YSL has just added 4 more new shades to their popular Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette range, and oh, they are so good. If the initial 4 colorways were all about the various rosy tones (it was an ode to Mr. Saint Laurent as it was his favorite color), these new palettes cover the basic spectrum but in a brilliant way. I picked up 700 Over Noir and 710 Over Brun. I also ordered the cult favorite, 100 Stora Dolls with these two. 

The new palettes come in the same beautiful "clutch" packaging. It is a compact yet beautiful design, but some issues with eyeshadow pans falling off have been reported. One of mine actually fell off so I ended up fixing it up with clear glue. I hope the new ones won't have the same issue!

YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow 700 Over Noir ($68, Macy's)

Over Noir is a gorgeous cool-toned smokey palette with rich black and metallic silver. All shades are very pigmented and buttery soft. I believe this is the same great formula as the previous palettes although there are minor variances depending on the colors.

I love that there is this matte peach shade for transition. Cool grey and black can look harsh on the skin even on cooler complexions, so it is important to have a shade like this in a smokey palette, in my humble opinion.

The textures of these eyeshadows are amazing, especially the darkest black shade. The color deposits without skipping and can be built up quite easily for an intense effect.

Now, the color story of Over Noir reminded me of Guerlain Imperial Moon, so I had to compare these two.

Indeed, we can clearly see the same idea going on in these two palettes. However, they are not dupes and the textures and finishes are quite different. The Guerlain is a bit more versatile thanks to the shimmery taupe. The YSL has more of a straightforward colorway.

YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow 710 Over Brun ($58, Harvey Nichols)

Over Brun is a pleasant surprise for me! The color story is basic but thanks to both warm and cool assortments of brown, this little palette is quite versatile. All YSL eyeshadow quads have an amazing formula but Over Brun seems even better and richer.

The shimmery topper is more densely packed and its base has a more pigmented base, which is different from other YSL palettes I have tried. The deepest brown shade has a tinge of burgundy and it is amazingly rich and pigmented. All shades are so silky and smooth that they practically blend themselves.

Here, I have compared all 3 quads - Over Noir, Over Brun, and Stora Dolls. If you love neutral eyeshadows like me, you'd agree these are all very "different" palettes. I thought Over Brun would be somewhat similar to Stora Dolls, but not really. (And guess what, I love Stora Dolls the most. So predictable of me. I will feature this beautiful quad sometime soon.)

These new eyeshadow palettes from YSL are excellent! Currently, in the US market, they are only available at Macy's but I hope to see them at more retailers very soon.
