DIOR Holiday 2023 Makeup Collection

I purchased quite a few pieces from the Dior Holiday 2023 Makeup Collection but that was not my initial intention. I only ordered an eyeshadow quint, a blush, and a liquid lipstick, but Dior made yet another mistake on the website and put the incorrect names on the eyeshadow palettes. I am not joking. Dior has done something like this with every collection for the past couple of years. Long story short, I ended up ordering the other eye quint and blush plus some other stuff so here we have a lot to look at. The good thing is that I am not mad about having more than what I had planned. This year's collection is inspired by Tuileries Garden and although it is not exactly unique, everything is really well done, and they seamlessly create beautiful looks. Diorshow 5 Couleurs 543 Promenade Dorée ($68, Dior)

Promenade Dorée is a beautiful golden neutral palette. The finish is overall shimmery but the shimmers stay on the skin without irritating the eyes. The silvery heart of the quint brings balance to the color story otherwise could be too warm. 

All shades are well-pigmented and go on smoothly on the skin. Assuming this is the new formula, I can't really tell the difference. I have no issue with the new talc-free formula but notice some inconsistencies depending on the quints, but these two quints from the holiday collection feel more like the old formula to me.

I will talk about it more in my look post but the longevity is quite great as well. If you like shimmery eyeshadows that look posh and put together, you will be happy with this palette.

Here, I have compared Promenade Dorée with two other warm-toned palettes from the previous Dior holiday collections:

They may all fall into the warm neutral category, but each still looks different from the other. Of course, that is to this makeup enthusiast's standard.

Diorshow 5 Couleurs 043 Night Walk ($68, Nordstrom)

Night Walk is a cool-toned palette with silver and grey hues. In this case, the slightly muted gold in the center brings balance to the color story. I have to say I quite like this idea of mixing cool & warm tones.

Although I prefer cool-toned shades in general, some grey colors can make my complexion sallow and look alien on the skin. But, not these colors! There is something fresh about them and they look harmonious and sophisticated on the skin.

Again, the eyeshadows in this palette are of great quality. They apply smoothly and are pigmented enough. The colors blend seamlessly but they don't end up looking muddy.

Rouge Dior Blush 211 Precious Rose ($48, Dior)

Honestly, I had zero expectations for this mundane peachy blush. Turns out this is indeed a precious little gem and one of my favorite picks from this collection.

It is a very light shade but it still has enough pigment if that makes sense. This is a darling shade that shows the two color elements - pink & orange - clearly without looking too muted. The satin sheen is gorgeous.

Here, I have compared Precious Rose to Dansante. They look quite similar in the pans, but the actual colors on the skin are different. Dansante is more muted and the finish is more subtle (almost matte) as well.

Rouge Dior Blush 621 Splendid Rose ($48, Nordstrom)

Splendid Rose is a stunning rosewood shade with some clarity in the tone. It is one of those great colors for "cold girl" makeup looks.

It is pigmented and quite intense but blends out really easily. I have no issue with blending out this color for a soft flushed look. The satin sheen is more on the subtle side.

Here, I have compared Splendid Rose with Dior Galactic Red (holiday 2022) and Chanel Beige Rosé et Mauve (Chanel Fall Winter 2023):

Galactic Red has a red undertone and shimmers and Beige Rosé et Mauve is deeper with some purple undertones. Splendid Rose is the easiest to pull off out of the three compared here.

Now, on to the lip and nail stuff I picked up from the Dior Holiday 2023 Makeup Collection...

Dior Addict Lipstick Case Tuileries ($30, Dior)

I like Dior Addict Lipsticks but they are not my favorite (I only like lighter shades in this slippery formula). But, I could not pass this gorgeous limited edition case!

The design and the intricate details are just amazing. I would highly recommend this case if you are a Dior lover and collector.

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer 051 Nude Bloom ($40, Dior)

This is one of the new shades added to the line. Nude Bloom is a slightly warm-toned beige nude with micro-shimmers. It is quite well-pigmented and gives good coverage on the lips.

Here you can see Nude Bloom and Shimmer Macadamia are quite similar. The undertone is the main difference. Shimmer Macadamia is cooler in tone.

Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Sequins 620 Seductive ($47, Dior)

I dislike the Rouge Dior Forever Liquid formula as I find it too drying on the lips, but I had to try this limited edition glittery version of it. 

It is quite an interesting formula. You are supposed to apply to color and wait until it dries then pucker your lips to reveal the glitters. Before you do that, the liquid inside the tube doesn't even look that shimmery.

Seductive has a gorgeous, slightly muted fuchsia berry base, and the glitters in it are multi-colored. I think the best way to wear this is to apply a very small amount and blend out the color thoroughly. In that way, it feels less drying and the color looks its best potential (I will show you how it looks in my following look post. It's quite pretty.)

Dior Top Coat 216 Dorure ($30, Dior)

Dorure is a gorgeous top coat with irregular-shaped gold glitters. Very versatile and pretty!

The new Dior Vernis blush is more flexible and very easy to use. I don't mind a bigger brush for applying a sheer top coat.

Here, I am wearing one coat of Dorure over Diorlisse Abricot. I've also tried this top coat over black nail polish for an edgier look. Both are beautiful looks with some special touch.

Overall, quite typical and safe color stories for holiday seasons but are still beautifully executed. I often complain Dior replicates themselves but in this case, I have to give it to Dior for creating yet another familiar but satisfying collection.
