The much anticipated YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palettes are finally in the U.S.! Currently, Bloomingdale's is the only retailer that carries them but I hope to see them available at more places. I think this is one of the best makeup releases this year and a big comeback for the brand which seems to be struggling a bit in the North American market. Among the sea of neutral eyeshadows flooding the beauty market, these rosy neutrals still stand out for their beautiful luxe packaging, intuitive color stories, and unique formula.
YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow 400 Babylone Roses ($68, Bloomingdale's)
According to YSL, these eyeshadow colors are a tribute to Yves Saint Laurent's love for rosy shades, and except for a couple of bold color stories that are limited editions (blue & metallic), all color stories are about different tones of "rose".
400 Babylone Roses has cool muted mauvy rose undertones with different finishes.
These eyeshadows are very pigmented and have soft yet creamy textures that are quite different from some of my other favorites such as Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain. Because of this unique texture, there might be some fallout and powder kick-up. This is not the kind you want to dig into the pan and blend excessively, and you don't need to since they blend beautifully with minimal effort.
The shimmers in these palettes are another thing to note: they have a great presence and impact. They look quite wet and fluid on the eyes and give the "lamé" effect you'd often get from Japanese eyeshadows.
Here is a makeup look I shared on my Instagram using Babylone Roses:
*Dior Forever Skin Correct 0N (old version) as a foundation

YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow 500 Medina Glow ($68, Bloomingdale's)
500 Medina Glow is another rosy quad with brighter coral undertones. The composition of the palette is essentially the same as the Babylone Roses quad.
A makeup look with Medina Glow (I did a makeup demo of this look in my recent YouTube review video as well):
YSL Touch Éclat Le Teint foundation (BD01)

YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stain (407 Carmin Session)
I swatched Babylone Roses and Medina Glow side by side for your reference:
Hope you find my reviews and swatches helpful. I personally really enjoy these eyeshadow palettes and would highly recommend them especially if you like shimmery eyeshadows but still aim for sophisticated looks.
