Chanel Spring Summer 2023 Makeup Collection has been out for more than a few weeks now. I initially bought one palette and nail polish but ended up adding a few more items including the other palette in the collection. I have some swatches, comparisons, and makeup looks to show you, which will make a very long read if I try to include all of them in one post, so I will break them into parts. In this post, I will mainly review the items I picked up and share swatches.
Les 4 Rouges Yeux et Joues 957 Tendresse ($90, Chanel)
This collection is about the brand's signature color, red yet again but with a different twist. Chanel describes the makeup effects from the collection "The Blurred Red Look" and I personally think it is aptly described because it is exactly what you get thanks to the baked texture of the palettes.
Except for the shimmery highlighter shade, the overall finish is a crossover between matte and satin. There is virtually no powder kickups thanks to the baked formulation. The color payoff is sheer but definitely buildable. Generally speaking, these colors have a harder-pressed formula compared to the existing eyeshadows and blushes from the Chanel core collections but the shimmery shade is a bit softer.
Les 4 Rouges Yeux et Joues 958 Caractère ($90, Saks Fifth Avenue)
Caractère is the deeper color story and except for the golden shimmer shade, the overall tone leans cooler. This one makes such a great blush palette for me. The harder baked texture allows me to apply these deep and saturated colors with carefree manners.
The bottom left shade is something I use both on the eyes and the cheeks. The bottom right red is probably the easiest red blush that I've ever handled. Both shades easily give me that blurred effect.
Now, I have compared these 2 palettes side by side:
It seems the deep berry shade (marked with * on the swatch photo) is shared by these two palettes. I probably did not need to have both palettes but what can I say? I really enjoy having them in my collection. Despite that reddish eyeshadow shades are not exactly my favorites, I have been reaching for the quite often lately cause they are just so easy to wear!
Baume Essentiel 67 Rouge Frais ($45, Chanel)
I did my best to capture the beauty of Rouge Frais but this swatch photo does not do justice. It is a sheer and muted warm red with this most amazing peachy sheen and looks so beautiful, especially on the lips. I find it kind of funny that it is one of the most hydrating colored-lip balms I've tried.
Le Vernis 967 Watermelon ($30, Chanel)
Watermelon is a very bright orange coral with a jelly finish. Beautiful shade but I didn't love the shade on me. Plus I didn't think this one goes well with the collection. It is a fitting color for summer but it felt a bit out of place. Application and wear are consistent with the other Chanel nail polishes that I own.
