Dior has recently reformulated the popular Lip Maximizer and of course, they raised the price by $2 as well. It is now $40 USD a piece but I have to admit this is one of those reformulations with visible improvements so I am not going to complain too much.
According to Dior, they have improved the formulation itself so it is now more hydrating and has more natural-origin ingredients. But most significantly, Dior added a bunch of new shades in different finishes and pigmentation levels. Currently, there are whopping 31 shades available on the Dior website. I picked up 4 shades in 4 different finishes. Please keep reading for my thoughts and swatches!
Holographic Lavender (003) is a purple-tinged clear formula with holographic shimmer. It looks very pretty on its own but it makes a great topper for sure.
Shimmer Strawberry (005) is a slightly warm medium pink with silvery shimmers. This one has a good pigmentation level for a gloss. Very flattering on its own.
Cherry (015) comes in the classic formula that is probably most similar to the old version. It is a hot cherry shade in a sheer glassy formula. Best shade if you just want to wear some gloss on your lips with no other makeup on.
Intense Blueberry (040) is probably my favorite from the bunch. Do not let the dark bottle color scare you. This is a gorgeous berry shade and has a great color payoff. It looks amazing on its own.
Generally speaking, I am not into plumping lip formulas because I do not enjoy the tingly sensation. The old formula of Dior Lip Maximizer was not an exception. I had a small tube of clear color but soon tossed it away because of the discomfort. I picked these new ones mainly because I was curious and also because I was attracted by the various colors with different finishes. I am not sure if this new formula is more gentle or if I was overreacting before, but I do find them much more tolerable. In fact, it doesn't bother me anymore.
I wonder if Dior is trying to replace their Addict Gloss range with this new Maximizer since now there are so many different shades available. And I can't find Dior Addict Gloss or Stellar Gloss on the Dior website anymore.
In any event, I would highly recommend checking them out if you don't mind a bit of a tingly sensation. The colors are gorgeous and they wear well for gloss. The hydrating and plumping effects are real - my lips do look better when I wear these.
