Bronze Sepia (499) is one of the latest addition to the Dior 5 Couleur Couture range and a part of the Dior Spring 2023 Collection. Scroll down for some swatches, comparisons, and my review.
Dior 5 Couleur Couture 499 Bronze Sepia ($62, Dior)
I don't believe this is an LE since it isn't marked so on the Dior website. Bronze Sepia has this familiar warm neutral color story and it is very similar to some of the previous releases. You wouldn't need to rush out and buy this palette unless you're in dire need of getting a warm neutral eyeshadow palette. I still appreciate the high quality and ease of use. I am not even that into warm eyeshadow colors but there is something about this quint. Let's just say I wanted to dismiss it for being redundant but I could not. I enjoy it very much!
The formulation is close to the original that was first introduced a few years ago when Dior did a major reformulation on their eyeshadow quints - it is soft and creamy and has great color payoffs and blendability.
The composition (satin, matte, metallic, glittery) reminds me of my all-time favorite Soft Cashmere. In fact, Bronze Sepia is like the warmer sister of Soft Cashmere.
The colors in Bronze Sepia are very similar to Prêt-à-porter from the Spring 2023 Runway Collection. Interestingly though, because of the textural differences, Prêt-à-porter yields a much fresher and airy look while Bronze Sepia feels richer and more autumnal.
I have this unconfirmed theory that ever since Dior brought out a handful of LE Velvet quints, instead of expanding the collection, Dior has been using the velvet formulations in recent releases quite randomly. Prêt-à-porter is one example and the Miss Dior quint is another.
Nude Dentelle Velvet quint is also very similar in terms of the colors but again, due to the different textures and finishes, they give me two different looks. For some reason, I find Bronze Sepia much more wearable. Of course, you'd have to be a bit crazy about makeup like I am and appreciate the subtle differences like that.
There is nothing new about the Bronze Sepia eyeshadow palette to be very honest with you. We have experienced this excellent formula and seen these pretty colors many times over. Having said all that, I still love having this great basic in my eyeshadow wardrobe. If you like warm neutral eyeshadows and this happens to catch your attention, at least you won't regret getting it.
