I am usually on top of it when it comes to Dior Holiday collections but for some reason, I hesitated this year. I even thought about skipping the entire collection. This would be another side effect of spotting prematurely leaked photos and in this case, Dior didn't do a very good job presenting the collection. The celestial-themed embossment looked pretty but the overall colors looked off and even dry from the promo image. Long story short, I am glad I didn't skip it entirely because it turned out to be much better than I expected. At the same time, I think it was the right choice that I only picked 3 essential pieces for a glam holiday look.
Dior 5 Couleurs Couture 359 Cosmic Eyes ($65, Dior)
Cosmic Eyes is a neutral gold smokey palette with a slightly grungy feel. I thought the faint olive-green undertone in this color story was quite attractive. The lower left shade is absolutely gorgeous and unique in my taupe eyeshadow collection and I have a lot of taupe eyeshadows.
All shades are pigmented and swatched beautifully. The matte black with sparse shimmer also behaves pretty nicely. These eyeshadows feel slightly softer compared to the core collection. I wonder if this is to make the special embossment work easier.
The overall finish of Cosmic Eyes is a high-shine satin, and thanks to that, the look I get from this palette is quite festive and glamorous. The color story itself is on the basic side.
Here are some comparison swatches:
Different color stories, obviously. Golden Snow has more of an ethereal glittery finish and Cosmic Eyes has a ricer satin finish. I still prefer Golden Snow. It is quite special.
The sophisticated olive-khaki undertones are similar but the textures are very different so I consider them different animals. Cosmic Eyes yields more depth as well.
Codes Elegants is more golden than Cosmic Eyes. Again, different textures and overall finishes.
Rouge Dior Blush 826 Galactic Red ($47, Dior)
Galactic Red is a slightly muted cool berry red. A very pigmented stunning shade that will suit medium to deep skin tones better, but with a light application, it can look beautiful on fair to light complexions as well.
I apply this blush using a very light squirrel hair brush and I can get very natural flushed cheeks perfect for the season.
I don't have too many red blushes and wanted to compare this to Chanel Brun Roussi (Spring 2022):
Brun Roussi looks browner and muted. It has a harder baked texture and is much easier to apply, though.
Dior Addict 974 Zodiac Red ($42, Dior)
Dior describes Zodiac Red as a "brick red". The bullet kind of looks bricky but in real life, this is a cool-toned berry red with high clarity. I love cool-toned lip colors so this was a nice surprise for me.
Now, I have an overall makeup look with these 3 items:

Thanks for being here. I think it is a solid collection with a classic color story and I am quite happy with the quality of the items I picked up. What do you think of this year's Dior Holiday Collection?
