CHANEL Holiday 2022 Makeup Collection | Demander La Lune

Chanel's Holiday 2022 Makeup Collection is now available and it is warm, moody, and almost haunting. It is GORGEOUS. Titled "Demander La Lune", the collection has the motifs of the moon and the iconic No.5 perfume bottle. I wonder if this is the stuff that was supposed to come out last year since it was a very big anniversary of No.5 and Chanel did a large campaign titled "Ask for the Moon" ("Demander La Lune" in French). We may never find out but at least, Chanel did it right this time. I am not usually into warm-leaning color stories but I am quite smitten with this collection.

Les 4 Ombres 937 Ombres de Lune ($65, Chanel)

As you see, the eyeshadow pans look like the surface of the moon and are embossed with a perfume bottle, flowers, and the CC logo. Quite a detailed and intricate design and I love it.

The color story is very warm and gold but it is not one of those glitzy party gold, which is fascinating to my eyes. There is some darkness to the colors and I really love that about this collection. I wish the darkest brown was a bit darker but that's me being extra picky with this palette.

The quality of these eyeshadows is amazing. Not exactly the same but similar to the Tweed Eyeshadows. Some feel more creamy than others but overall, these are great eyeshadows that apply, blend, and stay on very well. Quite pigmented, too.

I have made some comparison swatches for your reference. They are all different in terms of the colors and the textures but I suppose they are "close enough" to some.

This is the most requested comparison, but they are the least similar pair. 

The texture and finish are similar but they have different color stories. Tweed Cuivre is more neutral.

The formula would be the biggest difference here since the Guerlain quad has this talc-free formulation.

To my surprise, Guerlain Exotic Orchid looks most similar to Chanel Ombres de Lune in terms of the color story. The Guerlain is more vibrant, though.

Éclat Lunaire 887 Or Rose ($88, Chanel)

Chanel is offering two jumbo-sized lumizing face powders in this collection. But who needs a jumbo highlighter (lowlighter for me in this case...)? Only Chanel can do stuff like this and get away. I joked "we ask for the moon and get the powder size of the moon". 

Having said that, it is a beautiful powder. The colors are gorgeous and the baked formulation imparts a beautiful glow that is subtle yet still noticeable. 

This time, both colors (Or Rose & Cuivre Doré) are quite deep. I picked up Or Rose which is lighter and a bit rosier of the two but it is still deeper than my complexion.

However, it is not an issue. I have more than a few luminizing face powders that are darker than my complexion and enjoy wearing them as luminous blush colors. They look subtle on the face while adding some dimension to the look, which is a perfect companion to brighter lip colors, in my opinion.

This collection has 6 lip shades (4 new & 2 repromoted) and I picked up 2. I have one of the repromoted shades in my collection and will show it with the new shades.

Rouge Allure L'Extrait 817 Rouge Sélène & 858 Rouge Royal ($55, Chanel)

Rouge Allure Laque 89 Rouge Ombré ($42, Chanel)

All stunning, but my favorite is the Rouge Allure Laque Rouge Ombré. This is a slightly dark berry with the most amazing metallic sheen.

Le Vernis 965 Clair de Lune ($30, Chanel)

This color surprised me a bit because I expected it to be more golden than khaki. It has a strong olive khaki undertone but still looks gorgeous. Almost grungy and it is unique in my collection.
