Nowadays, it seems every luxury brand is trying to come up with some sort of a "green beauty" option, and Rouge Allure L'Extrait is Chanel's offering. We welcome it but not without a grain of salt. Long story short, the lipstick formulation and the colors are one of the best but they come with a hefty price tag. Chanel never has been an affordable brand but the price jump this time around is quite huge that it feels off even to me who is quite gullible when it comes to Chanel makeup.
I purchased 4 shades and received 1 sample shade.
Maybe this idea of "refillable lipstick" isn't very appealing to me because I hardly ever use up anything. The concept is obviously great but I can tell Chanel was almost too clever with this one. So the full lipstick is priced at $55 USD and you get 2g of product. A refill is $40 but you have to have at least one full lipstick case and base in order to be able to twist the bullet up and down (the twisting mechanism is hidden inside of the bullet. Yes, almost too clever).
Now, because the formula is indeed amazing and superior to the existing Rouge Allure range, I am not complaining that I am getting only 2g of lipstick instead of 3.5g. But when you think about the price gap ($42 to $55), it is rather ridiculous, to say the least. I didn't purchase any refill this time but it does feel light and flimsy.
The good (and bad) thing is that I honestly adore this lipstick formulation. The colors are intense and pure, the finish is softly luminous satin, it is long-lasting, and it feels light on the lips plus actually hydrates my lips. Chanel usually does an amazing job with reds and saturated pinks and this time isn't an exception. I almost wish I didn't love the formula as much.
Here are individual lip swatches and comparisons. I was able to find some similar shades from my existing Chanel lipstick collections but the formula is so different that I can't say they are dupes.
812 Beige Brut
838 Rose Audacieux
(Season in Rouge Coco Bloom is also very similar to Rose Audacieux.)
854 Rouge Puissant
(This is the sample shade I received. It is an amazing neutral red and I might have to grab one for myself. Chanel also makes a matching nail polish!)
858 Rouge Royal
874 Rose Imperial
There is no doubt that the new Rouge Allure L'Extrait is an amazing lipstick range. But, I have to wonder why we the consumer have to pay for the brand's sustainability. Sure, we all have responsibility but shouldn't it be shared and benefit both sides?
I also have reviewed this range in my recent video. Please check it out and subscribe if you can!
Thanks for being here. Let me know what you think of this new Chanel lipstick range.
