No 1 de Chanel is a big part of Chanel's Spring 2022 launch. This clean skincare/makeup/fragrance line boasts the power of red camellias that are grown in the special garden in France. Using camellias in skincare is not a new concept at all and I always give a little bit of side-eye when I hear the word, "clean beauty". I do love Chanel beauty, but I was almost ready to criticize this significantly more expensive offerings from Chanel. A long story short? I like them. A lot, unfortunately. I have to say the two I have experienced are extremely well done if not all that magical.
Skincare is the bigger part of the collection but I have no intention of spending that much on a skincare line with no significant active ingredients. (Plus I am extremely happy with my current skincare routines.) I did receive a small tube sample of the new Vitalizing Serum. It is a nice lightweight serum that hydrates my skin but I didn't think it transformed my skin or anything. Of course, it is hard to learn anything substantial from a skincare sample. I did, however, pick up both the new foundation and lip & cheek balm.
No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Foundation ($70, Chanel)
Of course, this foundation is supposed to have skin benefits but I will only review it as a makeup product. It is an excellent foundation with light-to-medium coverage. I have seen some reviews saying this is a glowy foundation but to me, it has a very natural satin finish. I still need concealer for my hyperpigmentation but this uber natural finish is surprisingly long-lasting. After 8 hours of wear, my complexion still looks fresh and decent. I can often skip powder with this foundation.
What's most bizarre and satisfying is the shade itself. I have a few other Chanel foundations but the shades are a bit off on me. As you see in the swatch photos, BD01 in No 1 de Chanel foundation is significantly different from BD01 in Les Beige Healthy Glow foundation. Some might complain about this inconsistency but this is better for me. The new BD01 is an ideal match for me and I have been saying the perfect color match is the single most important factor in choosing a foundation!
No 1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm ($45, Chanel)
The price is ridiculous and I could immediately think of an affordable alternative, but the formulation is quite awesome, I have to admit. This tiny balm can be used on both cheeks and lips. Most multi-use products often fail to satisfy both - you either like it better on the lips or on the cheeks. It is just hard to nail both, but this one is quite good for both lips and cheeks!
I only picked up one shade, Red Camellia because it is the most classic "pot rouge" shade and also because I am not big on cream products. Red Camellia is a cherry red with a hint of pink and looks gorgeous on.
It is very easy to control the color intensity and it feels very comfortable and lasts well. The color sets down nicely on the cheeks without the tacky feeling yet it feels and looks hydrating on the lips. I don't know how, but well done, Chanel!
Overall, an excellent new addition to the Chanel lineup. Being clean and sustainable isn't new anymore but it's good that Chanel wants to join the movement. Unfortunately, it also adds to our part since this is a more expensive line but I am only half-complaining because I like the goods.
I have reviewed them in my recent video as well:
Thank you for being here. What do you think of this new No 1 de Chanel line?
