Happy New Year, my dear friends! I wish you a healthy and fulfilling new year.
It's been a while since the last time I did a Look Book post. I almost always include overall looks in my swatch/review posts but I can't say I have been wearing my makeup in a creative way lately. Hopefully, I will share more of wearable makeup looks in 2021.
This is a simple yet glamorous look that I put together for New Year's Day. During my year-end vacation, I didn't wear makeup so this was the first in a while. I didn't have any particular look in mind and grabbed the items as I went. I ended up with the usual suspect (smokey eyes and red lips) but it was quite fun. There are a few new-to-me items that I used for the main colors and I will show you quick swatches of them at the end of the post.
Makeup Items used in this look:
Givenchy Teint Couture Everwear in Y001 ($52, Nordstrom)
Guerlain Meteorites Compact in Light ($62, Nordstrom)
Chanel Joues Contraste in Pink Explosion ($45, Chanel)
Pat McGrath Blitz Astral Quad in Ritualistic Rose
Chanel Ombre Premiere Laque in Vastness ($36, Chanel)
Chanel Le Volume de Chanel wp mascara ($32, Chanel)
Prestige Cosmetics Total Intensity eyeliner in Deepest Black ($8.28, Amazon)
Chanel Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue in Passionate Red ($40, Chanel)
Chanel Ombre Premiere Laque and Le Rouge Duo are relatively new items for me. I do like the colors a lot and understand why some rave about them, but I probably won't add more colors to my collection because I am not exactly in love with the formulations although they are great for what they are.
32 Vastness is a gorgeous shimmery taupe with a plum undertone. It is a truly beautiful one-and-done shade for me. This liquidy gel formula is cool to touch and sets very quickly. It is quite pigmented so you just need a little dab on each eye. Once set, it is virtually budge-proof and lasts until you remove it. I find it sets almost too fast that I feel I don't have enough time to blend it seamlessly. I use both my fingers and a brush but it is still not so easy. For me, liquid eyeshadow is about simplicity and easiness to use but this isn't exactly the case.
I will continue to use Vastness because I do love the color and like how long-lasting it is on my eyes. Pro tip: Use a small amount and work on one eye at a time!
Le Rouge Ultra Tenue is indeed super tenacious! It is designed to be worn in 2 steps - first, apply the main color, let it set for a few seconds and top it with the clear gloss. If you like full-colored lips with a glossy shine that lasts and lasts, you will love this formulation.
This is after I tried to smudge the color. The gloss wears off (and there is a bit of color transfer but it's only because I didn't wait long enough) but the main color is intact. I don't know what kind of magic this is but it is resistant to both water and oil. But, fear not - it can be easily removed without a trace using a bi-phased remover. By nature, you will probably end up using the gloss part faster but from what I have tried so far, Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss and even Smith Rosebud Salve work as a topcoat. While I enjoy wearing this under my mask, the issue for me is once again the formula that sets super fast. It is also because I don't normally like full-defined looks with such saturated colors as Passionate Red. I prefer to wear a thin even coat of color and smudge the harsh edges but Le Rouge Duo doesn't give me enough time to do so. I might try a lighter color in the future, though.
Thanks for being here. I hope you enjoyed this look and my quick review/swatches!
