The last time when I bought from ColourPop was about 5 years ago when the brand introduced itself to the market. I have to tell you that I was utterly disappointed by them and never looked back since. However, ColourPop is one of those brands you keep seeing on SNS whether you like it or not and I even heard that the overall quality is much improved over the years. There is this one eyeshadow palette that I was particularly interested in thanks to a few friends' recommendations, so it seemed a high time to place an order when I saw the promo images of That's Taupe palette.
For some reason, the color names and the packaging is all about snakes. The color story is quite awesome consisting of cool moody taupe, brown, and khaki in different textures.
Really, I can't fault the colors themselves. These are something you would find from NARS eyeshadows in the old times and I appreciate that having this palette lets me experience all the different eyeshadow formulations that ColourPop offers including Super Shock Eyeshadow.
But, it wasn't the eyeshadow palette that appalled me.
I also bought lip gloss from the same collection expecting so much more since now we can find many excellent lip gloss from the drugstore ranges. This sucked so bad that I couldn't believe that ColourPop has the audacity to sell it for $7. It is a goo fragranced with a sickeningly sweet cake batter scent - something I was buying for $2 in the '90s! The Rattler Shade is a warm milky nude. It's pretty but washes me out.
(Do you see the dark matte shade ended up in my creases? I used an excellent eyeshadow base and this photo was taken minutes after I put them on.)

I wouldn't dismiss the brand completely because as I said, I really like and enjoy the other palette (Making Mauves), but I don't think I would buy anything from ColourPop out of curiosity from now on. I would need some solid recommendations.
Edited: It was sold out on the official website for a while but now Ulta has this palette available if you are interested.
Thanks for being here. Have you tried ColourPop makeup? What is your experience?
