NOTD - Revlon Nail Enamel Perplex (aka Naughty)

NOTD - Revlon Nail Enamel Perplex

The other day I was browsing the Revlon nail polish section downstairs. Revlon has more than a few nail formulations available, but the classic Nail Enamel is still my favorite. It is in fact the only drugstore nail polish I buy and there are some shades I would forever repurchase (Revlon Red, for instance). I would have bought a backup of Perplex (aka Naughty) because I love this transitional vampy shade with dusty purple undertones, but I could not find it. Revlon must have done it again. (sighs)

So here is the story - Revlon introduced Perplex years ago and many polish fanatics quickly recognized it as a "darn close dupe for Chanel Paradoxal". Personally I think it is difficult to dupe Chanel polishes in general (they excel in color complexity although their formula is somewhat questionable), but I myself concurred that they were nearly identical. The notorious Chanel sold out very quickly anyway. Soon after Revlon renamed Perplex to Naughty (eh). Maybe I should have bought a backup then. Now it seems Revlon has sorted this classic range again and Perplex (or Naughty) is gone. There is no equivalent shade. Dear Revlon, why?

Now I do not wear shimmery nail polishes as often. However, the fine orchid shimmer in Perplex is special. It beautifully contrasts to the smoked purple base adding a sophisticated depth. It is not too dark so it still looks purple under dim lighting indoors. I find it applies and wears very well although I rarely experience chipping.

Luckily, it is still available through some online retailers. I notice a slight markup but it's not so bad. I  know I am being Grinch about it (why in November is the "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" movie on TV, by the way?), but I am going to enjoy this non-holiday shade this week and probably order another bottle soon.
